For Black History Month, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite craft workshops, cooking and workout classes and other black-owned businesses that help us enrich our lives! Us Love Listers swear by these spots year-round for cooking classes, educational experiences and more. Check them out when you get a chance!
1. Blacklit
This bookstore in Farmers Branch is completely dedicated to black literature, featuring popular and upcoming authors throughout the entire store. Not only is this spot absolutely beautiful, but they host tons of community events to bring people together, including events for kids! Inside you will find a coffee cafe, games, and plenty of seating to relax and find a new read!
2. In Living Colour
We are all about helping you switch up your traditional date night or girls night for something fun and unique, so here's a spot that definitely needs to be on your list! In Living Colour is in Farmers Branch, and it is a great time. They offer paint-and-sip classes with a cultural spin — you'll find R&B icons and hip-hop legends on templates you can paint while a live DJ plays your favorite old-school and new-school hits! The studio hosts a variety of nightly classes, including Karaoke and paint, doormat painting, as well as plant and sip! You can book your class online, and if you have a large party, you can even rent the entire space!
3. Val's Cheesecakes
The cheesecake-baking classes at Val's will make you a hit with your friends and family for life! For $100 or sometimes $150, you get to learn the tried-and-true techniques for baking the best cheesecake according to Marie Jose Labossiere (Val's Mom) and Val. Val will walk you through crafting the perfect cheesecake while sharing with you the reasons behind each step and sharing some of his cheesecake life lessons. Classes are usually two to two-and-a-half hours.
4. The Tipsy Bloom
The Tipsy Bloom in Farmer's Branch is just as lovely as it gets. We love it here. Their 21-and-up floral design classes are a BLAST — the perfect choice for your next Girls Night Out. You can create gorgeous arrangements while sipping wine and making new friends at one of their rotating locations around DFW.
5. Cooking the Details
Chef Dazore offers a wide variety of cooking courses at Cooking the Details in Carrollton. They have options for both groups of adults and groups of children to come and refine their skills in the kitchen! They also offer nutrition coaching for those who are looking to eat better and improve their health.
6. Loft 22 Cakes
The decorate-your-own mini-cake classes hosted by Loft 22 in Fort Worth are AMAZING, y'all. In their classes you learn how to torte, fill and ice a 4-inch mini vanilla cake. The mini cake will be finished in a design of your own creative choice, and you get to take it home afterward, of course! All the tools and supplies you need are provided in the class.
7. Coco & Shea

11. Daisha Board Art Gallery
Daisha Board Gallery in West Dallas is a contemporary art gallery representing BIPOC artists, LGBTQIA+ artists and artists with disabilities both locally and abroad in various media, including sculpture, photography, installations, performance art and digital media. Daisha Board Gallery focuses on optimum visibility, inclusion and acquisitions for marginalized artists and has curated, juried and collaborated on exhibitions and projects in both traditional and non-traditional art spaces throughout Dallas.
12. The Dock Bookshop
The Dock Bookshop in Fort Worth hosts a Poetry Slam and spoken-word open mic night every Tuesday! It starts at 7:30 p.m., it's BYOB, parking is free and all artists are invited to share their gift!
